Scanner Rattles at the End of the Scan solution:

If the scanner rattles at the end of the scan make sure that your BIOS is properly configured. You can do this by following this guideline:

If the problem persists then please do the following:

For the 9636T, 9636P+, and 12000T:

  1. Click on Start
  2. Click on Run
  3. Type in regedit then click on OK.
  4. Click on the plus sign on HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE.
  5. Click on the plus sign on SYSTEM
  6. Click on the plus sign on CURRENTCONTROLSET
  7. Click on the plus sign on SERVICES
  8. Click on the plus sign on VxD
  9. Click on the plus sign on SCANDRV
  10. Look for Chipset on the right hand side of window, it should read 0x00000017 (23) if not double click on the blue and white icon and change the xx to 17 and click on OK. If not there then click on EDIT, then NEW and DWORD VALUE. This will give you a New Value #1 type Chipset in box and enter. Then double click on the blue and white icon and change the xx to 17.
  11. Look for PortMode on the right hand side of window, it should read 0x0000000 (0) if not double click on the blue and white icon and change the xx to 0 and click on OK. If not there then click on EDIT, then NEW and DWORD VALUE. This will give you a New Value #1 and type PortMode in box and enter.
  12. Now look for IOBase=0x000000378 (888) if not there then click on EDIT, then NEW and DWORD VALUE. This will give you a New Value #1 type IOBase in box and enter. Then double click on the blue and white icon and change the xx to 378.
  13. You should now have Chipset=17, PortMode=0 and IOBase =378. Close out of the registry Editor and reboot your computer.


For all other parallel based scanners:

  1. Click on Start
  2. Click on Run
  3. Type in system.ini then click on OK.
  4. Scroll down until you found [ScannerParameters] in [ ] look for Port_ChipType=xx make sure and set it to 17, then look for Port_Mode=xx and make sure that it is set to zero (0).

If that doesn't work please take a look at your installation CD and read the date the CD was made (located on the inner clear portion of the CD). If it is before the date of the driver we have located on our site then please download the current driver. If the driver on our site is not labeled an upgrade then you will have to do a full install with the newly downloaded driver. Uninstall/Install instructions (uninstall for 9636T/P+ or 12000T)are available on our site as well.

If you have done all the above steps and the scanner still rattles then it is possible that you have a defective scanner. In this case please call to talk with a representative about a replacement.
