Uninstall/Install for all USB Scanners


Note: Please make sure that there are no applications running in the background
when you run the uninstall and reinstallation of the scanner software.

Uninstall Instructions for all USB Scanners (For Transparency Models - Click Here)

1. Locate the Action Manager 32 on lower right hand side of the task bar
and right click on it and left click on close or exit to close the Action Manager.
Then locate the X OCR is on the bottom of your task bar then right click
on it and left click on close. If you do not find these items then go to the next step.

2. Click on Start, Setting, Control Panel and double click on add/remove programs,
Scroll down until you find Plustek Scanner Installation and click on remove to uninstall
scanner. If asked about shared files say "yes to all". Then close the Control Panel.

3. Right click on Start, left click on Explore. On the left hand side look for Start Menu
and left click on the plus sign on the file all Programs. Look for Plustek Scanner and
right click on it and left click on delete. Scroll to the top of the and look for Program Files
and left click on the plus sign. Then right click on the folder called Plustek USA and left
click on delete, then scroll back down and look for Twain or Twain-32 then right click on
the folder and left click on delete for both folders. Then left click on the X in the upper right
hand corner to close out of the Windows Explore Menu.

4. Left click on Start, Shut down and Restart and then OK. When your computer
starts to boot back up and before Windows loads start clicking the F8 on your computer
keyboard (this will bring up a menu) then click on #3 safe mode and let your computer
finish booting up.


5. Left click on Start, left click on Run and delete anything in the open box and type
REGEDIT and then click on OK. Left click on the plus sign that reads HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
(This will open up the folder). Then left click on the plus sign folder for Software.
Right click on the file called Plustek Scanner and or ScannerU or Plustek USA
folder and left click on delete. Find MicroGRAFX and Xerox and also right click on the
folder and left click on delete to delete these programs. Then scroll back up to the top until
you find the Software Folder and left click on the the minus to close this folder, then click
left click on the plus sign on System, CurrentControlSet, Services, and VxD. Then found
the folder named scandrvu or scandrvup (anything that looks like the scndxxx) and right
click on it and left click on delete. Then click on the X in the upper right hand corner to close.

6. Click on Start, Find and then Files and Folders and type USB scanner in name
box and make sure that you are on your Windows C drive. Click on Edit and
Select All, then press the delete key on your keyboard to delete the files. Click
on the X in the upper right on corner to close the Find Box.

7. Right click on My Computer , left click on properties, left click on Device Manager.
Left click on the plus sign for Imaging Device and find Plustek USA Scanner,
then right click on it and click on remove.

8. Right click on your recycle bin and empty the recycle bin.

9. Click on Start, Shut down and click on Restart to restart your computer.


Installation Instructions

1. Make sure and disable or uninstall any anti-virus you may be running on
your computer during startup.

* McAfee:  Go to start, programs, Mcafee and click on v shield, then go to
detection and find any and all lines that talk about disabling during startup
and icons on task bar and click on the checkbox to remove the checkmark.

* Norton's: Go to start, programs, Norton's, click on Norton's anti virus and
then click on tools, options and auto protect.  Then find any and all lines
that talk about disabling during startup and icons on task bar and click on the
checkbox to remove the checkmark.

2. Close all running programs by holding down the ctrl and alt key together
and then click on the delete key once this will open the close program box.
Highlight one application at a time and click on end task, "DO NOT CLOSE
EXPLORER OR SYSTRAY".  If other box comes up staying "program is busy" just
click on the end task key.

3. Insert the CD-ROM and click on Install Scanner Software. (PLEASE MAKE
SURE THAT THE SCANNER IS PROPERLY CONNECTED TO THE
COMPUTER BEFORE YOU BEGIN INSTALLING THE SCANNER SOFTWARE).

4. Then when you get to the screen that shows typical, compaq or custom
click on "CUSTOM" installation and go to next. Install one application at a
time (making sure that only one component has a check in the box). Install
only the scanner driver.  For Windows 98 (otherwise go to step 5), go to
Start, Programs, Accessories and click on imaging.  Then click on file and
select scanner, select flatbed scanner.  Then click on file and scan new, if
scanner works.

5. Then install the rest of the components one at time by going back to
custom installation and start the process all over again until you have all
the components installed.

*Make sure you remember to enable your anti-virus by the above instructions.
