This is more than likely a case of a defective CCD. You can, however, check that to make sure that your BIOS is properly configured. You can do this by following this guideline:

If the problem persists then it is possible that you have a bad CCD or CIS. Please email a copy of an attempted scan to so that we may determine if it is a defective imaging device. Make sure you scan it at 75dpi with a JPEG interchange extension.
